TEAS Exam Guide: In-Person and Remote (At-Home) Testing Requirements and Tips
Preparing for the TEAS exam, whether you’re taking it in-person at a testing center or remotely from home, requires careful attention to guidelines and planning for a smooth testing experience. This guide combines essential information for both test formats, outlining requirements, tips, and what to bring or avoid on exam day.
General Requirements for All TEAS Exams
• ATI Username and Password: Have your ATI account login details ready for test day. You will need these to access your TEAS exam.
• Government-Issued Photo ID: You must present a physical, government-issued, non-expired photo ID. The first and last names on your ID must match those on your registration. Photocopies or digital images of your ID are not accepted.
Requirements For remote (at-home) TEAS Exams
Requirements for In-Person TEAS Exams
In-Person TEAS Exam
Before Test Day
• Exam Format: Your institution will inform you whether the exam will be conducted online or in a paper-pencil format. Most exams are administered online, requiring you to log into your ATI account.
• Arrive Early: Arrive at the testing center at least 15–20 minutes before the exam start time. Late arrivals are not permitted.
• Calculator: A four-function calculator (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) is provided for both online and paper-pencil formats. Personal calculators are not allowed.
• Timing and Rescheduling: Allocate up to 4 hours for the exam, as each section is timed individually. If you need to reschedule, this must be done at least 48 hours in advance for a fee.
What to Bring
• Photo ID and Login Information: Bring a government-issued photo ID and ATI login information.
• Pencils and Erasers: Bring two sharpened No. 2 pencils with attached erasers. The testing center will provide scratch paper.
What Not to Bring
Leave these items at home or in your car:
• Additional Apparel: Jackets, hats, and sunglasses are not permitted, though allowances are made for religious attire.
• Personal Items: Purses, backpacks, and electronic devices such as cell phones and smartwatches are not allowed.
• Food and Drink: Only medically necessary items with documentation are permitted.
Test Day Expectations
• Proctor Monitoring: Proctors will monitor for disruptive behavior, and any misconduct will result in dismissal and no scoring of the exam.
• Breaks: You may take a 10-minute break after the math section. During the break, avoid accessing personal items.
• Assistance: If you need help, raise your hand. Lost time cannot be made up.
Transcripts
• Your official TEAS transcript will be sent to the testing center or institution within two hours of completing the exam. Additional transcripts can be purchased if you need to send results to other institutions.
Accommodations
• Contact your testing center prior to registration for ADA accommodations. Each institution must ensure reasonable accommodations for documented disabilities.
Remote (At-Home) TEAS Exam
Remote Test Day Requirements
• Computer and Equipment: A fully charged laptop, desktop, or tablet with a webcam and microphone is required. Check the technical requirements page to ensure your system meets the specifications.
• Internet Connection: Test your internet speed at www.speedtest.net for a strong and stable connection.
• Login Early: Log in 20–30 minutes before the exam to complete check-in, identity verification, and equipment testing.
Room Setup and Environment
• Quiet, Well-Lit Room: Set up in a quiet space with adequate lighting and a plain background behind you. Avoid distractions and ensure your entire testing area is visible to the webcam.
• DRY RUN: Complete a dry run to test your hardware, browser, and internet connection in the same space where you’ll take the test.
• Stay On-Camera: Remain on-camera throughout the exam to avoid being flagged for review. If you wear glasses, adjust them to reduce glare, and consider looking slightly below the webcam for better clarity.
