Instructions for Chamberlain University TEAS Exams
This guide is for applicants taking the ATI TEAS® exam for Chamberlain University. Your exam is proctored by ATI using the Respondus LockDown Browser, even though it appears in your ATI account as a TEAS Online at Institution exam. You will not use Proctorio, and the instructions on the general TEAS Online at Institution guide do not apply to you.
- Find your confirmation email and Assessment ID
- Check your system requirements
- Complete the Dry Run
- Log in and add your exam to your ATI account
- Install the Respondus LockDown Browser
- Start your exam and complete the pre-checks
- Take your TEAS exam
Before you begin – read this first
- Keep your confirmation email. It contains your Assessment ID, exam date, and exam time. You cannot start your exam without the Assessment ID.
- Your exam time is in Central Time. All Chamberlain TEAS exams are scheduled and proctored in Central Time (CT), because ATI’s proctors are based in Kansas City. If you live in another time zone, convert your start time before exam day (this time zone converter can help). For example: a 2:00 p.m. CT exam starts at 3:00 p.m. Eastern, 1:00 p.m. Mountain, and 12:00 p.m. Pacific.
- Start on time. Your exam must begin at your scheduled start time. We recommend logging in 30 minutes early so you have time to sort out any computer or login issues. There is a 30-minute grace period after your scheduled start time; if you have not started the exam by then, you will not be able to test. For example: if your exam is at 2:00 p.m., log in around 1:30 p.m. — and if you have not started by 2:30 p.m., you will not be able to test.
- Complete the Dry Run before exam day. Chamberlain covers the cost of your exam, but if you miss your exam or cannot test because you haven’t completed the Dry Run and pre-checks, you may have to pay out of pocket for a new one.
- Bring your ID and your login. You must present a valid, physical, government-issued ID, and you need your ATI username and password. The first and last name on your ID must match the name on your ATI account exactly.
- Chamberlain applicants have a dedicated ATI support team. For any question, issue, or reschedule, call 1-833-261-5735 or email [email protected].
Step 1: Find your confirmation email and Assessment ID
After you register, ATI sends an email titled Order Confirmed: ATI TEAS Online Exam. It lists your Assessment ID, exam date, and exam time, along with buttons for the Dry Run, starting your exam, and test-day requirements. Keep it — you’ll need the Assessment ID in Step 4.
The exam time in your email is Central Time (CT). If you are in a different time zone, convert it to your local time and write it down so you sign in at the right moment on exam day. Not sure of the difference? Use this time zone converter.

Step 2: Check your system requirements
You may use a laptop, desktop, or iPad with a supported operating system. See the current list on our technical requirements page.
IMPORTANT: Google Chromebooks are not supported for remote testing at this time. Administrator rights are required to install Respondus; if you’re using someone else’s device, have them approve the install.
Set yourself up for success before your Dry Run or exam
- Use a fully charged device, or keep it plugged in.
- Confirm your camera works: webcamtests.com
- Confirm your microphone works: onlinemictest.com
- Confirm you have a strong internet connection: speedtest.net
- Find a well-lit space and be ready for a desk scan. See room setup suggestions. Public locations are not allowed: you must test alone in a private, secure room, not in a car, coffee shop, or open library area, and not with your back to a window.
- You may have one blank sheet of paper (or a small desktop whiteboard) and two writing instruments. Destroy the paper when you finish.
- Headphones are NOT allowed unless you have an approved accommodation.
- Also not allowed at the desk or in reach: phones, smartwatches, smart glasses, extra monitors, notes, books, personal calculators (one is built into the exam), food, and drinks (including water).
Step 3: Complete the Dry Run
Click Complete a dry run now in your confirmation email. It takes you to the ATI login page; sign in, click MY ATI, then the Assessments tab, and open the Dry Run. Do it on the same device, in the same room, you’ll use on exam day. The Dry Run walks you through installing Respondus and every pre-check, so nothing is a surprise on test day.
Use the Respondus Dry Run, not the Proctorio one. Because your exam appears in your account as a TEAS Online at Institution exam, you may see two Dry Run options: one for Proctorio and one for Respondus. Chamberlain exams use Respondus, so choose the Respondus Dry Run. The Proctorio dry run will not prepare your device for your exam.
Step 4: Log in and add your exam to your ATI account
- Go to www.atitesting.com/login in Chrome, Firefox, or Safari and sign in.
- On the Home page, click Add a Product in the upper-right corner.
- Enter the Assessment ID from your confirmation email and click Continue.

Your proctored TEAS exam is now loaded in your account. If Respondus isn’t installed yet, ATI takes you straight to the Respondus Required page (Step 5).
Step 5: Install the Respondus LockDown Browser
Already completed the Dry Run on this device? Respondus is already installed — you do not need to install it again. Skip to Step 6. You will still complete all of the system pre-checks on exam day; those run every time you start an exam.
On the Respondus Required page, click the download for your device: Windows, Mac OS, or iPad. Windows: open and run the MSI file. Mac: extract the files and run the installer. iPad: install Respondus LockDown Browser from the App Store.

Mac and Windows users
When the installer opens, click Allow, then Continue through each screen. Enter your computer password (or use Touch ID) if asked, and click Close when you see “The installation was successful.”

Already have Respondus? You must be on the latest version to test. The Check for Updates button on the Respondus Required page often does not work — if you are prompted to update, or LockDown Browser gives you any trouble, uninstall it and reinstall it from your exam card (how to reinstall LockDown Browser). This is one reason to sign in 30 minutes early.
Step 6: Start your exam and complete the pre-checks
Close every other application and make sure your device is fully charged or plugged in before you start.
On exam day, sign in 30 minutes before your start time (remember, it’s Central Time), open your exam from the MY ATI > Assessments tab, and click Start Test on the Respondus Required page. Respondus then runs nine pre-checks in order: Terms of Use, webcam check, additional instructions, guidelines and tips, student photo, photo of ID, environment (desk) scan, facial detection check, and Begin Exam.
1. Terms of Use — read the terms and click Agree.

2. Webcam check — center your face in the window, click Record Five Second Video, and speak in your normal voice. Play it back, then click Continue.

3. Additional instructions — read the exam rules and click Continue.

4. Guidelines and tips — click Next through the tips.

5. Student photo — fill the picture window with your face, look into the camera, and click Take Picture.

6. Photo of ID — center your government-issued ID in the window and hold it up to the camera so it is readable, then click Take Picture.

The #1 reason an exam is stopped or flagged is a missing ID photo or a name that doesn’t match your ATI account. Hold your ID steady and make sure it’s readable. If a photo doesn’t come out right, close Respondus and start the pre-checks again.
7. Environment check — clear your desk, click Start Recording, slowly pan your webcam around your testing area, then click Stop Recording.

8. Facial detection check — sit still until you see the green thumbs-up, then click Continue. Your face must be fully visible to the camera for this check and throughout the exam, so hats, hoods, bonnets, headbands, and other head coverings are not allowed. A recognizable religious head covering, such as a hijab, is allowed and does not need to be requested in advance; bonnets, shower caps, and plain scarves are not accepted.

9. Begin exam — all checks show a check mark. Click Begin Exam.

For a screen-by-screen walkthrough of every pre-check, see the TEAS at ATI Quickstart Guide — the pre-checks are identical.
Step 7: Take your TEAS exam
- Once the exam begins, a “Recording” icon will appear at the top right of the screen.
- Do not exit the exam until you’re finished. You won’t be able to print, copy, open other applications, or visit other websites during the exam.
- A drop-down calculator is built into the exam. Personal calculators are not allowed.
- When you submit the exam for grading, the webcam stops recording and you may exit LockDown Browser.
Your results and transcript
Your official transcript is sent to Chamberlain University automatically — you don’t need to do anything. To see your scores, sign into your ATI account and click the Results tab.

Frequently asked questions
Is this a Proctorio exam?
No. Chamberlain TEAS exams use the Respondus LockDown Browser and are proctored by ATI. Ignore any Proctorio instructions you see elsewhere.
What time zone is my exam in?
Central Time (CT). All Chamberlain TEAS exams are scheduled and proctored in Central Time because ATI’s proctors are based in Kansas City. The time in your confirmation email is CT, so if you live in another time zone, convert it: a 2:00 p.m. CT exam is 3:00 p.m. Eastern, 1:00 p.m. Mountain, and 12:00 p.m. Pacific. Use a time zone converter if you are unsure. Missing your exam because of a time-zone mix-up counts as a missed exam.
I did the Dry Run. Do I need to install Respondus again?
No. Once Respondus is installed on your device, it stays installed. On exam day, just make sure you are on the same device and on the latest version of Respondus (if you are prompted to update, uninstall and reinstall it — Check for Updates often does not work), and then complete the system pre-checks — the pre-checks run before every exam, including the one you already did for the Dry Run.
What time should I sign in?
Your exam begins at your scheduled start time (in Central Time — see above).
I didn’t get a confirmation email or Assessment ID. What do I do?
Contact the Chamberlain support team at 1-833-261-5735 or [email protected].
Can I use a phone or Chromebook?
No. Use a Windows or Mac computer or an iPad. Chromebooks and phones are not supported. See ATI’s technical requirements.
How do I reschedule?
Chamberlain applicants do not use ATI’s standard reschedule process. Call 1-833-261-5735 or email [email protected] at least 48 hours before your exam date.
Who do I contact with a problem on exam day?
The Chamberlain support team: 1-833-261-5735 or [email protected].
Do I have to pay for my exam?
Chamberlain covers the cost of your first TEAS attempt. If you miss your exam or cannot test because you haven’t completed the Dry Run and pre-checks, you may have to pay out of pocket for a new one. Retakes are not covered: to retake the TEAS, register and pay through ATI’s standard TEAS registration and select Chamberlain University as your school so your results are sent automatically.
What ID do I need?
A valid, physical, government-issued photo ID (approved ID list). The first and last name must match your ATI account exactly.
The name on my ATI account doesn’t match my ID. How do I fix it?
You cannot change your name yourself; it must be updated with documentation. Contact the Chamberlain support team at 1-833-261-5735 or [email protected] at least 48 hours before your exam date with your username, the current name on the account, your correct name, and a photo of your ID (black out the ID number; never send a Social Security number). Your username, email, and password you can change yourself under Profile (how to update your ATI account).
I picked the wrong school when I created my account.
Go to Profile › Institution, click Edit, and select Chamberlain U TEAS (not an individual campus or program). This is what loads your Respondus Dry Run and routes your transcript. How to create your ATI account for Chamberlain
Can I wear a hat or head covering?
Your face must stay fully visible to the camera, so hats, hoods, bonnets, headbands, and other head coverings are not allowed. A head covering worn for religious reasons, such as a hijab or another familiar religious head covering, is allowed and does not need to be requested in advance; the proctor approves it at check-in. Bonnets, shower caps, and plain scarves or wraps are not recognized as religious head coverings and must be removed. Questions: contact the Chamberlain support team at 1-833-261-5735 or [email protected].
Can I use scratch paper or a calculator?
One blank sheet of paper (or a small desktop whiteboard) and two writing instruments (in case one stops working) are allowed (scratch paper rules). A drop-down calculator is built into the exam; personal calculators are not. No drinks on the desk. Room setup for a remote exam
Is there a Dry Run?
Yes, and you must complete it before exam day. Click Complete a dry run now in your confirmation email, sign in, and open the Dry Run from the MY ATI > Assessments tab. If you see both a Proctorio and a Respondus Dry Run, choose the Respondus one — that is what your Chamberlain exam uses. Step-by-step: TEAS at ATI Dry Run Guide.
Respondus won’t install or open, or my exam froze.
Before exam day, see Troubleshooting Respondus LockDown Browser (uninstall and reinstall fixes most problems). If something goes wrong while you are testing, exit the exam and contact the Chamberlain support team right away at 1-833-261-5735.
How do I get my transcript to Chamberlain?
It’s sent automatically after you complete the exam. You can view your scores on the Results tab of your ATI account. Already have a TEAS score from another attempt? See How to send an existing TEAS score to Chamberlain.
